Letter written by Nathaniel F. Hyer and sent to Edward Everett, Governor of Massachusetts, containing one of the earliest known descriptions of Aztalan, an archaeological site in Jefferson County, Wisconsin. In the letter, Hyer includes a diagram of "The Citadel" along the west branch of the Rock River as well as descriptions and an illustration of other features of the site including mounds, paths, and a road. Hyer concludes his letter requesting of Everett any suggestions as to the "best methods of rescuing these works from oblivion."
